Gulfstream Park Racing Analysis — Thursday, January 17, 2019, by Paul Hundley

Hello once again and welcome to another Thursday of racing from Gulfstream Park for their Winter Championship Meet. Last week we had 3 on top winners, but still struggling to get our price horses in the mix. Today is another day however, so let’s get to the analysis.

RACE 1: 7-1-3
7-DISCREET HEAT blitzed the $6250 n2l last out by over 5 lengths and is first off the claim for Murat Sancal, like the confidence moving up off the claim in this jail move. 1-Takedown was 3rd last out at today’s level and Robert Falcone Jr is 24% first off the claim . Rail hitting 22% at the distance this meet. 3-King Bill has been beaten 180+ lengths his last 5 starts, but does flash decent early speed in a paceless race and is dropping in class. Also makes return to track where he scored his two wins. Shot if is able to establish early lead.

RACE 2: 5-1-3
5-RODDICK cuts back from 2 mile and , was 2nd in that race at MC $25k level, liking the step up in class. Route to sprint for Stanley Gold. 1-Quizzical Cajun was 3rd of 7 beaten almost 6 lengths at level, track, distance last out and was 3-2 fave in that race. Rail 27% at today’s distance. 3-Kong Style puts blinkers on for the first time and is dropped to Maiden Claiming for the first time. Big Jock switch to John Velazquez.

RACE 3: 6-5-1
6-POW comes in for Dale Romans and is FTL, and first time routing(19%) was midpack in debut at 7 furlongs. His Dam was former Stakes Winner Sweet Symphony. 5-Bebeau comes in for some guy named Pletcher who is making his 2nd start. Was 2nd beaten 4 1/2 lengths at 1 Mile in the slop. 1-Country House was 2nd of 9 horses at 49-1 on December 1, 2018 and comes  in for Bill Mott and Luis Saez. Sports a bullet 4 furlong work.

RACE 4: 8-2-1
8-SUPERCOMMITTEE should be near the early lead for Chad Brown, whom she makes her first start for. Brown a solid 29% first start with, and 28% of layoffs over 90 days. Also taking a big drop in class from $80K OC’s. 2-Annabella Queen lacked room in her last vs similar, finishing 4th beaten less than 2 lengths. Had a pair of near misses 3 and 4 races back at today’s level. 1-Reagan’s Odyssey is in for a tag for first time and switches to Irad Ortiz.

RACE 5: 6-3-8
6-DYNA PASSER is making second start and was third , beaten 2 lengths in debut. Place horse came back to win next out. 3-Tapit’s Princess is also making 2nd start after fading to 4th in debut. Was 4/1 that day and was a $500K two year old in training purchase. Switches to Luis Saez.

RACE 6: 2-3-4
3-GO GO JAK looks to be the speed here and was 2nd at this level in her last outing. 31% first off the claim for Angel Rodriguez 2-ANNABELLA BELLA is going turf to dirt, route to sprint, and is taking a class drop. Her last try on conventional dirt was a 2nd st Keeneland. Also taking blinkers off.

RACE 7: 9-10-5
9-VEHEMENT finished 4th of 12 as the 2-1 favorite last time seen at Kentucky Downs and switches to Jose Ortiz. Mott 18% on long layoffs. Bullet 4 furlong work. 10-Zipaway is a FTS for Wesley Ward (26%, 19% debut on turf) Dam has one previous winner from her other starter.

RACE 8: 8-9-6
8-SAINT MICHAEL takes a major class drop , routing for first time and switches to Ortiz Jr. 2 of his 3 races resulted in 80+ BRIS Speed figures. 9-Flat Out Flying has won both career races he’s finished, won by 3 lengths last out. Moves up from 12.5K and is a FT Gelding.

RACE 9: 9-10-4
9-NIGHT PROWLER has ran a 90+ BRIS figure in 11 consecutive races and drops to $35K for first time in career. Should be racing from off the pace. 10-End Play was well beaten last race and switches to a much better turf jock in Javier Castellano. Won an AOC two back.
