Gulfstream Park Racing Analysis- Mar 14 2019- By Paul Hundley

Hello and welcome everyone to another Thursday of racing analysis for Gulfstream Park. We only have a couple of more Thursday’s left in the Championship Meet, so let’s make ‘em count! Last week saw our second consecutive week of positive ROI with our on top winners. Let’s go for the hat trick today.

RACE 1: 2-6
2-A GREAT TIME won last time Out after being returned to turf sprints. While she is moving up in class, she has an early speed edge over her main rival in here, 6-Factorofwon. While I don’t see her on the lead today, I do see her within a length early waiting for the right time to bid. Is 7-2-2-1 at today’s distance. 6-Factorofwon has a pair of seconds her last two here at today’s distance and class level. Christophe Clement is 25% third off the layoff.

RACE 2: 1-7
This could win an award for worst race I’ve ever handicapped. Yes I realized I ended up with the chalks, and believe me I tried to make a case in my head for any of the other 5 but couldn’t see it. 1-BALLY SQUALL adds blinkers for the first time and gets an extra furlong off her last race to make up the 3 lengths she was beaten last out. Is second off the claim for Antonio Sano(20%). 7-Run Gal Run nearly won here at distance and level last out at 72-1, will not be anywhere near that today.

RACE 3: 1-4
Early chalkfest probably continues here with 1-A BIT OF BOTH, who looks like the early speed and speed of the speed, and one I expect Luis Saez let’s cruise to an easy win. Won the state bred level of this last out by 3 lengths. Jason Servis 45% at the meet. I’ll just leave that to your imagination. 4-Farfalla has not ran well either of her two dirt starts but Trainer William Tharrenos is 29% turf to dirt.

RACE 4: 5-2-1
5-ALPILLES is first off the claim for Gilberto Zarpa(38%) and adds blinkers(30%) and should really be blazing early on. Also positive jock switch to Emisael Jaramillo. 2-Corn Off The Cob ran 2nd last out vs $25K Claimers with the debut of blinkers as the 6-5 favorite. 1-Distinctly Blue cuts back to 5 furlongs after not being able to handle Stskes company or the 1 Mile distance, but was just beaten at $25K two back.

RACE 5: 1-7-8
1-EASTERN PRINCESS drops from MSW into today’s level, Brian Lynch is 31% MSW to MC, and 28% first time MC. Expect her to be close to the pace like two back. 7-Andrea’s Pride also drops from MSW level for Christophe Clement (34%) and drops back in distance to a sprint. Second time Lasix.

RACE 6: 8-2-5
8-SOMETHING BIRD cuts back slightly after finishing a well beaten third at today’s level, 2 back was 2nd at $12.5K level and should be stalking pace under Luis Saez. 2-Curlin’s Knight broke his maiden two back before facing winners and well beaten last time out. Was claimed by Jeremiah Englehart(21%) . 5-Courage and Honor drops from $30K and has a big class edge for Kenny McPeek.

RACE 7: 8-5-1
8-WINGMAN has a legitimate chance here to score at a big price. Last out was 2nd in a restricted Starter Stakes after a neck win at $16K level. Both races were his only on Gulfstream’s turf, and believe he will be in a position down the stretch to get the W for Phillip Serpe, who is 23% at the meet. 5-Driven By Thunder is 4 of 6 at Gulfstream and Todd Pletcher is 31% off long layoffs. Looks to fastest early here, question is can he hang on here? 1-Flowmotion romped at $16K last Out and is first off the claim for Jane Cibelli and 2nd off the layoff (22%)

RACE 8: 8-7-5
7-STARSHIP REINA won a minor stakes last out and now cuts back a furlong today. Will definitely be going for the lead again. Today as has been in front by second call at least her last ten races. 7-Silly Factor was 2nd vs similar to this two back and was again runner up last out vs minor stakes company at Tampa. Has a great record at the 6 furlong distance (9-5-2-1) and will be sitting behind top choice early hoping for a slip up there.

RACE 9: 4-5-6
4-TICONDEROGA hasn’t been seen since last August when winning a high level Optional Claimer, and Chad Brown of course is the master of long layoffs. Also won the Grade 3 Palm Beach here last year in only start at Gulfstream. Offers a very short price however. 5-Myrad Khan is another coming off a long layoff and is sans Blinkers today. Also making first start for Eddie Keneally (26%). How’s this for a weird fact: Won here at Gulfstream exactly one year ago today (March 14, 2018)
RACE 10: 5-8-3
