Golden Gate Fields Racing Analysis — Saturday, May 16, 2020, by Warren Wilson

Race 1 – 12:45pm (PST) 3 year olds and up Clm 20000n2x  1-1/16 Miles Turf  (Selections: 4-7)

Top Choice: (4) Upo was showed signs of life two back against allowance company.  Returns to his preferred turf surface sporting 4 exacta placings in 7 attempts.  Been working sharply in preparation and drops in for a tag first time.

Backup: (7) Blame It On Kitty returns to the turf where two races back he hung a respectable 3rd against much tougher SA types.  Drops back to a reasonable spot after trying a tough starter allowance group going a mile and a quarter on dirt.  Draws Antongeorgi and seems ripe in this spot.

Race 2 – 1:15pm (PST)  3 year olds and up F&M Mcl 25000  5-1/2 Furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 6-5)

Top Choice: (6) Thunder Woman likely needed that last effort after a 9 month layoff (she was up about 75 lbs from her 3yr old campaign).  She has been working steadily since and now drops back to the level that produced an exacta placing. Couton stays aboard.  Should fire a big shot down the lane at a good price.

Backup: (5) Senorita Estrella debuts for Truijillo/Heredia who campaigned this one’s full sister Starza who was a very useful type.  Workouts shows some talent and Catalino is aboard.  Likely to show something at a great price.

Race 3 – 1:45pm (PST) 3 year olds and up F&M Str 50000  5-1/2 Furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 3-6)

Top Choice: (3) Chirp seems to have figured out the racing game since switching over to the tapeta surface after clearing her maiden and N2L conditions.  Now shows up in start allowance company with a resume of strong works.  Expect the streak to continue here.

Backup: (6) Promote fired a huge shot two back when running 2nd to Left Alone who came back to best an open allowance group next out.  That effort seems legit, yet is book ended by disappointing efforts.  Blinkers go on and strong work tab in prep.  A bit of a gamble, but if she brings her A game this race is hers.

Race 4 – 2:15pm (PST) 3 year olds and up Clm 50000   1-1/16 Miles All-Weather (Selections: 2-5)

Top Choice: (2) Arch Prince has been a model of consistency on the tapeta, hardly varying in each effort since 11/28 of last year. He drops down a bit after scoring a couple at the 62500 level.  Hard to go past this guy even at the likely short price.  Tough again.

Backup: (5) More Power to Him likes to strike when you least expect it and today gets re-united with Kevin Orozco who guided him to victory in a stakes up at Emerald Downs.  This guy loves the longer 1-1/16 mile distance (in exacta 6 of 15) and should find a bit of pace with Many Roses and Mithqaal.  Drops down to the lowest level he’s seen in a while.  Seems live to me at big odds.

Race 5 – 2:45pm (PST) 3 year olds and up Clm 20000n2x  6 Furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 5-4)

Top Choice: (5) Potente Alba can stalk Smokin Blackjack from the outside and then pounce in a race that seems to set up perfectly for him.  He’s already won at this condition once last out 3/29. Likely winner at a short price.

Backup: (4) Don’tteasethetiger chased the top pick home and was gaining ground on him late.  Wong will surely have him cranked and he poses a big threat.  Just think the top pick gets a better race set up.  Should close out a very chalky exacta.

Race 6 – 3:15pm (PST)  3 year old Fillies MdnSpWt  5-1/2 Furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 1-6)

Top Choice: (1) Wheal Grace nearly ran down Pentawan after a slow break in her debut.  Pentawan returned to run a good second to N1X Allowance types.  With a better gate break this one should improve.  Bautista’s winning pct goes +5 with second time starters vs his rate with first time starters. Solid choice at fair odds.

Backup:  (6) Connie’s Promise is 30-1 in the morning line but this one is out of a mare who won at first asking who also is from a strong family that includes $100k+ earners Swirling, Revenue Virginius and Tizanillusion.  Ordonez not bad historically with MSW first time starters (3/15) 20%.  Believe she should be included at huge odds.

Race 7 – 3:45pm (PST) 3 year olds and up F&M Alw 31000n1x  6 Furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 2-9)

Top Choice: (2) Our Bold Princess  love the fact she is shortening back to a sprint after the shutdown which also freshens her up.  Strong closing competitive type always seems to fire a good shot and expect another good go here.  It will be tough to overhaul the back up choice but think she stands a good chance to do so if some pace develops.

Backup: (9) Myangelcindy must be considered the favorite here after pressing very fast splits and hanging big speed figures.  She draws outside all the other speed and should get an ideal set up.  She broke on top five consecutive times and expect another great spring out from the gate.  Strong chance to wire the field.

Race 8 – 4:15pm (PST) 3 year olds and up MdnSpWt  1 Mile Turf  (Selections: 4-10)

Top Choice: (4) Seeking Refuge has a strong turf pedigree and love the fact he returns to the surface at a favorable distance.  The last tapeta sprint was better than looked.  He closed into a 18 second final 3/16.  Should find a nice inside stalking position early.  Good chance at fair odds.

Backup: (10) My Sunshine improved a bit when switching to turf and stretching out last time at SA.  Comes into a softer spot, shortens to a flat mile and has been gelded since.  Pat Gallagher has done very well here at GG with MSW types (14/62) 22.6% since 2001.  Couton aboard increases the appeal.  Wide post the main drawback.  Big odds chance.

Race 9 – 4:45pm (PST) 3 year old Fillies (S) Clm 12500  5-1/2 Furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 1-8)

Top Choice: (1) Trouble N Paradise gets lots of pace to run at and should find a great spot behind the speed inside.  Drops to a reasonable spot after the maiden win which was validated Thursday with Takes a Village and Super Party running 1st and 3rd in a Mcl 12500.  Consistent sort should be fair odds here.

Backup: (8) Going to Shabooms doesn’t need the lead to win and will need to employ that strategy here in a race loaded with speed.  She’s already won twice at this level and now picks up the state bred restriction.  Hernandez chooses this spot over other options so we’ll follow.  Solid.

Race 10 – 5:15pm (PST) 3 year olds and up F&M Mcl 20000  1-1/16 Miles Turf  (Selections: 7-5)

Top Choice: (7) Magical Path has been looking for a turf route based on her breeding and she finally gets it today in start number 4.  Previous sprints not bad and consistent worktab in prep for this.  Drops from MSW level into claimers.  Specht has done with with turf route types 15.4% since 2001.  Flores should cause some to shy away, but not us.  Good chance at great odds.

Backup: (5) Heatsky gets back to turf which is her preferred surface. Nearly wired the field two back at this level and fits well with this group.
