3-9-1

#3 Room to Finish: In a race where there isn’t any good MSW turf form except for one, we are forced to take an even money favorite. The good thing is she has raced twice and ran above the Beyer par twice for the level, and at maiden ranks Beyer pars are very good to weed out horses that can’t win. Today’s Beyer par is 65, and this filly has run over that twice, with back to back 71s. The next closest figure is a 59. The one big negative is that this horse has zero tactical speed, so with only one speed horse in the race she is definitely pace challenged.

#9 Bing’s d’oro: I tried to find another more interesting play for underneath. Both the Sire and Dam-sire liked the turf surface so not too worried about that most of the rest of the field have lost against weaker and I’m hoping to get a nice price above 4-1.

#1 Joey G: 2 words on why this is a horse to include underneath: lone speed. He’s also getting the rail draw, and his best race on turf was in a stake. Ran a solid 59 Beyer for the level last out.

Race 2
7-6-3

#7 Mr. Macfadden: Trainer Joe Sharp has been doing well to start off the meet, and does pretty well off the claim as well, hitting at 20%. Most of the horses in this race are coming out of a race won by a horse failing at the 5K MC level. I’m left with 2 horses that are coming out of different races.

#6 Hitthegroundrunnin: Deep closer ran an improved race when stepping up in class, but has also lost at the 5K level 2 and 3 back. The trainer is not that good, with a 1-57 on the year, but maybe the lightbulb popped on. This gelding ran the best race of his career last time out.

#4 Stand and Cheer: I like seeing Corey Lanerie jump aboard, and 3 back ran a good second in a claiming race. Since then, he has since been running in tougher allowance spots. For me more of a class drop spot then anything the race 2 back had a Beyer of 72 and the par for the race is a 78.

#6 Because It’s Time: This one has back races that are plenty good to win here, but the last race for only $8K with a slow pace and still not being able to win has me worried. Trainer Chris Hartman is very good off the claim, and I believe has found the right spot for this horse.

#3 Day Dreamer: This lightly raced son of New Year’s Day has been running on off tracks of late ,but has good numbers when racing against restricted claimers. He showed speed for the first time last out, so maybe the slight cutback with a little extra foundation might help him here.

#8 Parade Blue: Raced on the turf last time and then took a nice long break. He also gets a trainer change to a nice barn in Eddie Kenneally. The maiden breaker as a first-time starter tells me a layoff shouldn’t hurt him.

#2 Charlotte’s Wish: In one of the weakest races I’ve seen at the meet, I tried to find a horse who will go to the front because usually that’s all you need to win. It looks like the lone speed is this horse, and she at least has shown she can run well at the levels.
