Gulfstream Park West has a mandatory payout on the Pick 6 with a carryover of $1,094,463.99. It is a tough sequence filled with all claiming races with one maiden claiming. Here is my thoughts on the races and a possible ticket, good luck if you are playing!
Race 4 – Claiming $6,250 Non-winners of 3 Lifetime, 8 Furlongs on the Dirt
Top Pick #2 Lailoni
Lailoni is coming off a third-place effort against tougher. She was claimed that day for the second time by trainer Juan Alvarado. She will be a short price favorite that is legit but is not a single. #3 Vicky Apple is the only horse in this field that can contend on the win end with Lailoni. Vicky Apple is coming out of a 6250N2l in which she stalked the pacesetters and drew off winning by over 9 lengths geared down. If she can repeat that last effort, she will give Lailoni a run for the win.
Race 5 – Maiden Claiming $20,000, 5 Furlongs on the Turf
Top Pick SINGLE #9 Milkah
The morning-line favorite at 3/5 is my top pick single for race 5. This two-year-old filly out of palace malice has been facing tougher (Maiden $35k) last out and finished a close second. If she repeats any of her turf efforts she will win in hand.
*NOTE* #7 La Flamenca has continued to catch my eye when looking at the pp’s for this race. Her lone grass effort was a rough trip running into trouble during multiple points in the race. If her dirt form translates into an improved grass effort, she will easily outrun her odds.
Race 6 – Claiming $6,250 Non-winners of 2 Lifetime, 8 Furlongs on the Dirt
Top Pick #3 Deal With It Dude
The #3 Deal With It Dude is taking a big class drop after finishing a far back third in a $16k claiming race a little over two weeks ago. Competitive speed figures and has tactical speed to workout a good trip. This gelding retains the services of Jaramillo.
The #5 Cabre and #6 Mysterio are also horses I will be using in this leg of the Pick 6. #5 Cabre was a neck away from clearing this condition in his last while setting a reasonable pace. He is expected to go to the lead with hopes of him stretching his speed out to the mile. #6 Mysterio also finished second at this same condition but was well beaten. This horse two race back ran an 85 beyer speed figure which would easily crush this field. If he can improve second off the layoff and find some of his previous form he will be dangerous.
Race 7 – Claiming $10,000 Non-winners of 3 Lifetime, 7.5 Furlongs on the Grass
Top Pick #3 Take Notice
#3 Take Notice is coming second off the layoff for Robert Falcone Jr. This gelding is coming out of a dirt race at the same class of today’s race. The horse was eased coming into his first race in almost a year. Falcone Jr. is 43% with horses coming second off the claim. If this horse can return to the form he has shown in any of his previous races will make him tough when coming down the lane.
I will be using the #6 Southern Sea, #8 Eric the Salesman. Southern Sea finished second at this condition in his last race where he set a fast pace. The winner of that race came from last and he was the able to out finish the other pace setter. If this gelding out of Kantharos can set slightly more reasonable fractions could take the race from gate to wire. #8 Eric the Salesman finished a close fourth in his last race at this same class. He will be turning back from 8.5 furlongs to 7.5 furlongs. He has tactical speed to sit off the leaders and will get first run. He gets meet leading rider, Paco Lopez, which doesn’t hurt either.
Race 8 – Claiming $16,000, 7 Furlongs on the Dirt
Top Pick: #3 Noncents
Noncents is coming off a win at the same class last time out. He said fast fractions in the first sectional and was able to back the field down to finish strong winning by a length. He retains Jaramillo again and will be gunning for the lead at the start. The distance is a slight question.
I will be using the #1 Stormy Boss, #2 Durlyn, #4 Valley Girl, #8 Shessuchaknockout. #1 Stormy Boss is coming out of a maiden breaking score winning by 8 lengths. It was an impressive win even if the class he raced against is questionable. #2 Durlyn finished second in a race at the same class and longer distance. Meet leading Saffie Joseph Jr. is taking the blinkers off and is getting the meets leading rider in Paco Lopez. #4 Valley Girl is dropping in class finishing fifth against claiming $35k horses. Valley Girl should get some pace up front to close into and will be finishing late. #8 Shessuchaknockout is coming off a win at this same class on the turf. She has shown to be better on the turf but has found a new run of form since coming into the Liz Dobles barn. This filly has tactical speed and should sit a good trip behind the leaders.
Race 9 – Claiming $10,000 Non-winners of 2 Lifetime, 7.5 Furlongs on the Grass
Top Pick: #3 Princess Gaby
Princess Gaby is coming off a third-place effort against tougher (Claiming $16k N2L). She has tactical speed and can rate if needed. She set a relatively slow pace in her last before fading which is why she gets the much-needed class drop today.
I am using the #1 Passing Moments, #4 Blues Songs, and #5 Tennessee Cotton. #1 Passing Moments should be able to break on top from the rail. If she can get any separation, she could be dangerous on the front end. #4 Blues Songs has finished second in her previous two attempts at this class but will have to work out a trip. #5 Tennessee Cotton finished second in front of #1 Passing Moments in her previous race. She will be sitting behind the leaders and will have first run at the leaders.
