Belmont Park Racing Analysis — Thursday, September 19, 2019, by Ed Piluso

Hello all and welcome back to beautiful Belmont park. Last week sucked, I’m just going to be blunt. I’m not going to continue on, we are going to get hot this week for the 7 race card as I will not handicap the jumpers since I wouldn’t be doing anybody any favors.

Race 2: 7-5-1

#7 KAZMANDUDE has two 3rd place finishes in that many races and has ascending Beyer’s in those two races. Both of those races were the distance of today’s race and we see two very nice workouts since the gelding last race. He also gets a nice post position for his speed to clear the field given a good break and slot in toward the rail if given the chance.

Race 3: 1-5-3

#1 DESERT LIGHTS has run ITM in all 6 attempts at this distance and twice in 3 attempts her at Belmont with a victory. We get a rider upgrade today in Irad and we see consistent Beyer’s. The slight step up in class isn’t a worry for myself and he has been having a very successful 2019 and I think will continue to do so in what is kind of a stinker.

Race 4: 2-5-6

#2WHATDOESASHARKSAY  has steadily improving Beyer figures and is trying blinkers for the second time to try and get more speed. There should be some pace up front to chase turning for home and this filly closes very well. Trainer owns a 3 for 8 mark with maiden special wight runners who were out of the money returning from 40-60 days as well. Not a bad angle to go by and solid percentages here.

Race 5: 2/2B-6-1/1A

#2/2B ENTRY has some interesting runner here at 5/1 ML. The first part of the entry is a runner who is switching surfaces and didn’t show too much first time out. The other part of the entry is a first time starter who I see a lot of potential in. This trainer excels with first time starters, 9 for his last 21 (or 43% for you non math people). We also see a great collection of workouts and 21% for the trainer first time turf and in turf sprints. Joel Rosario is also up, my favorite in turf sprints.

Race 6: 2-1/1A-4

#2 UNCLE SIGH has been ITM in all 5 races here over Big Sandy and is 6 for 9 ITM at this distance. He ran well at this level last time out here at Belmont and that was at today’s distance. We also see a nice bullet work prior to this race and this guy has a proven track record.

Race 7: 5-8-10

#5 HOBOE has a very solid collection of Beyer’s and has much more experience than some of these lightly races colts. This gelding is 6 for 7 ITM with 2 wins here over the inner turf at Belmont. He also has one second in one race at this distance and is taking a nice step down in class here where he should have some success.

Race 8: 5-8-2

#5 SHYZA is a timid selection here but we are going to run with it. Decent price on the ML at 6/1 and Jason Servis has some very solid percentages with 2nd time maiden starters and 2 year olds. However the surface switch is my issue with Servis here as those percentages are abysmal. We see very solid pedigree and the early speed is encouraging, let’s take a shot here.
