Belmont Park Racing Analysis — Sunday, July 5, 2020, by Ivan Lopez

Let’s go quickly to the comments of a Sunday card without any stakes races, meaning great payoffs can be in store.

1st race: 6½ Furlongs. ™Clm 16000n2L Purse $27,000 FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD

2-7-3

Chasing Losses (2) will be the pick here, facing winners for the first time, but she won her maiden like a good thing and the ones that have faced this condition haven’t done anything special. Mosienko (7) will be put in that first flight by Joel Rosario and should be fond to returning to the main track, and the drop jn class. Enough Love (3) completes the selection, second off the layoff for trainer Robert Falcone Jr. and Saez keeps the mount.

2nd race: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) ™Mdn 64k Purse $64,000 (UP TO $11,134 NYSBFOA) FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD

6-5-2

Chad switches Risk Model (6) to the grass, and she has  done well enough on the main track to stay there. The fact that he performs the change and puts Irad on the irons speak volumes. Too Sexy (5) ran wide all race in her return, now cuts back to the seven panels and Clement and Rosario’s team is deadly. Chad’s other one is the first time starter Sing Me Home (2), who probably will need more ground to be effective, but cant be surprised at anything that Chad sends.

3rd race: 6½ Furlongs. MC 30000 Purse $33,000 (UP TO $5,742 NYSBFOA) FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD.

1-5-10

Fed Funds (1) drops sharply in class and trainer Horacio de Paz sends him to Big Sandy from Laurel, with blinkers on (35% effectivity). I have always liked when they send horses from a lesser circuit to a more prestigious one. Height (5) drops in class for Bill Mott (23% hit ratio) and now goes second off the long layoff. Should be ready to pounce in this much weaker group. Warfront Fighter (10) maybe can be classified as the speed of the speed here, and with the blinkers and Irad getting back aboard, its an interesting proposition.

4th race: 1 1/16 Mile. (Inner Turf) Clm 40000n2L Purse $40,000 INNER TURF (UP TO $6,960 NYSBFOA) FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD

9-2-1

Torres del Payne (9) had some trouble in his most recent, in a similar group. Now gets the services of Johnny V. and he should be pretty close to the pace, in a race in which we cant find much speed. Kilronan (2) is returning from an 20 month layoff dropping for a tag for the first time. From his races, he is the fastest in here, let’s see how well he cant stand the 8.5 furlong trip. My Sacred Place (1) and Make a Stand (1A) form a good entry. The former will be part of that first flight, preparing things for his partner to come late with his run.

5th race:  7 Furlongs. (Turf) ‘MC 40000 Purse $39,000 FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD FOALED IN NEW YORK STATE

9-14-5

Long Island City (9) should be able to dictate things up front with Carmouche in the saddle, and with two races lifetime, upside is still a latent possibility. If she makes it to the race, Tempesta (14) is probably the horse to beat, but being part of the also eligibles means he will need defections to get in. Fast Gordon (5) switches to the gras after a very subpar debut effort. Now gets to run for a claiming tag and Jose Ortiz takes the reins for one of his preferred clients, Linda Rice.

6th race: 6 Furlongs. Alw 50000s Purse $45,000 (UP TO $7,830 NYSBFOA) FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD

7-1-2

Coach Villa (7) should get a very nice setup, with ample initial zip signed in this race. Irad won four yesterday and I don’t think he plans on stopping any time soon. Mister Bobby (1) has been knocking at the door in this same condition and now receives a nice upgrade in jockey. He also can take advantage of a hot pace. Fevola (2) won impressively last time out and now returns after a four month break working steadily for his return. Stakes get higher now, but he still has some upside potential.

7th race: 1 Mile. (Turf) ™OC 62500n2x Purse $68,000 (UP TO $11,832 NYSBFOA) FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD

6-9-8

Horses coming from Europe have an edge in this race, with Stone Tornado (6) as the top pick. She was fighting  all the way till the end only to be beaten half a length for all the marbles. Irad returns to her saddle. Chaleur (9) and She’s Got You (8) both come from Great Britain, both running in very prestigious mees.  Chaleur already has a race in the states, and because of that, she has a bit of an advantage over the 8, but both are good fillies.

8th. race: 6 Furlongs. ‘Alw 56000n1x Purse $56,000 FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD FOALED IN NEW YORK STATE

7-2-1

Blinkers in for Quickflash (7), who will probably go looking for the lead, and at  six furlongs, he can take them wire to wire. Junior Alvarado repeats on the saddle with the equipment change. Big Thicket (2) was scratched on Friday to run here, always an important piece of  information. They are climbing up the ladder with him, a sign of confidence. Giant Shoes (1) can be the one that pulls the upset. That last race on the grass could have been sort of a prep for this one, and, on dirt, he hasn’t run in a group like this one. Castellano repeats.

9th race: 7 Furlongs. (Turf) OC 80000b Purse $70,000 (UP TO $12,180 NYSBFOA) FOR

FOUR YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD

4-10-2

Extremely difficult race to handicap, spread in horizontal plays. I will take a chance with Penalty (4), whose last race was pretty discreet, but before that he lost to Halladay, who is in great form. Should come flying late. Chewing Gum (10) should sit somewhat farther from that first flight which should be crowded and come with his run late. We can say the same about Delaware (2), whose debut left a lot to be desired, but with blinkers now, he will be a bit closer to the pace and Irad will be looking for the seams on the rail to make his move.

10th race: 6 Furlongs. (Inner Turf) ‘Mdn 53k Purse $53,000 INNER TURF FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD FOALED IN NEW YORK STATE

7-8-6

Sanctuary City (7) hasn’t run in seven months, but did well in those first runs and maturity could have kicked in. Should have good pace to run at. Striking Causeway (8) dis all the dirty work last time out just to be caught close to the wire. Rosario repeats and he will be a tough customer if he replicates that race. More Like It (6) had some problems in his most recent, Ortiz comes back to him and he will be closely watching things develop up front.
